Theater J University Emissary

What is a Theater J University Emissary?

A Theater J University Emissary is someone who meets the following criteria:

• Currently a student at a college or university in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
• Has a passion for theatre and at the arts
• Likes seeing shows for free
• Has a couple of hours every month to spread the word around your campus about the current show, conversation or other events at Theater J
• Wants to add a professional credit to a resume

What does a Theater J University Emissary do?

The emissaries will work directly with our communications and marketing department to create and implement marketing strategies on your campus about our latest shows, events and student discounts.  Although we have listed a few possible on campus promotion and marketing tactics below we also strongly encourage and support new ideas from our emissaries. 

• Distribute postcards around campus and community locations (I.e. book stores, student unions, coffee shops, aetc)  
• Include Theater J site links on your AIM profile, Facebook profile, or other social networking sites
• Write and post about Theater J shows and events on social networking sites
• Distribute Group Sales brochures to various theater and arts group facilities on campus and nearby neighborhood
• E-mail friends about upcoming programs and events
• Write about your experiences at Theater J on our blog or yours
• Submit events for campus calendar
• Submit Theater J article ideas to campus paper
• What else can you think of?

What is the time commitment like?

Before the opening of each new show and special event we'll send you an email with all the information you'll need to spread the word around.  We also have postcards at the office which we can either mail to you or you can stop in and pick up to distribute around campus. 

We also ask that you keep us looped into the advertising you're doing by including us on emails, send us links to blogs and online calendars, and in general let us know where you've been and what you have done for each show. 

What do you get out of it?

• Complimentary tickets for you and a guest to donor-level events at the Theater, including First Rehearsals, Invited Dress Rehearsals and Opening Night parties where you are invited to celebrate with peers, local actors and Theater staff
• A professional credit ot your resume
• First hand knowledge of the plays here at Theater J  - both on and off stage
