"Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve." -Martin Luther King Jr.
The Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service’s Behrend Builders program and 200 volunteers spent MLK Jr. Day doing beautification work at two local Southeast Schools, Turner and Ferebee-Hope Elementary.
We had the chance to celebrate this national holiday honoring the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. by making the holiday "a day ON, not a day off." We cleaned scuff marks, painted doors and offices and truly brightened the space for students and teachers. By providing cleaner schools we create a happier learning environment for everyone.
Rashi says “Naked a man comes into the world, and naked he leaves it; after all his toil he carries away nothing except the deeds he leaves behind.” Our actions at our MLK Day of Service in deed have left behind a positive change.
Volunteers joined us from Catholic University, Accenture, The Peace Corp and Department of Defense along with volunteers from the neighborhood and throughout Washington DC.
Thank you for helping to make our MLK Day of Service such a great success. We hope you will join us next year on January 19, 2009.
